Correct Color.
If you've ever tryed to institute a color management workflow, you know how frustrating it can be. Downloading a "canned" ICC profile for your new or used monitor and printer produces dissappointing results. As equipment ages and wear rates increase "canned" profiles become even more impractical. Like components, such as monitors and printers, made on the same day & production line, vary in their ability to achieve a standard gamut. Futhermore, components wear at different rates causing them to drift out of calibration frequently.
RGB and CMYK, emitted and reflected light, can achieve drastically different color gamuts. Approximately 20% of the color you can see on your monitor cannot be reproduced in commercial printing. Wide format inkjet printers can do a much better job of reflecting the monitors color range, however, those results will not accurately represent what you will recieve when commercially reproducing the same piece. Different output devices, which do not reproduce the same color range, are forced to clip or substitute for the nearest equivelent. Paper choices and inks will drastically effect the colors you precieve. Even lighting conditions can skew your color perception. Confusion is the order of the day, yet predictability is within your grasp.
